Yew Tree House - the Shropshire B&B for Bird Watchers
Close to the Meres Ellesmere, Fenn's, Whixall & Bettisfield Mosses. Lake Vyrnwy, Shropshire Hills and North Wales.
"The best bird watching garden I have come across"
AC Cambridgeshire - former RSPB Reserve Warden.
For Bird Watchers, Yew Tree House Bed and Breakfast Shropshire is a real treat. There are 3 acres of stunning garden and woodlands teeming with wildlife. Just a few hundred yards away are the unspoilt Shropshire Union Canal, Llangollen Canal and in particular, the Montgomery Canal which is almost a nature reserve in itself. Opposite Yew Tree House is a flooded meadow with a fascinating variety of waterfowl.
Close-by are the Meres at Ellesmere and the Shropshire Wildlife Trust's Wood Lane Reserve. Slightly further afield is Fenn's, Whixall & Bettisfield Mosses, probably the best lowland raised bogs in Britain and a Natural England National Nature Reserve. Yew Tree house is also convenient for the RSPB's Reserves at Lake Vyrnwy.
It requires no effort to see the varied - as well as some rarer birds - at Yew Tree House B&B. While you enjoy your locally-sourced home cooked breakfast, you can watch the birds on the bird feeders enjoying theirs. Obviously, nothing can be guaranteed, but it is unusual not to see a Tree Sparrow or Woodpecker over breakfast.
As well as the usual birds you would expect to see in a country garden, rarer visitors spotted at Yew Tree House are:-
Tree Sparrow
Greater Spotted Woodpecker
Yellowhammer
Lesser Redpoll
Brambling
Bullfinch
